ABSTRACT:The flood that on the night of the 10 th sept., at the mouth of the river Soverato-Beltrame, caused the well-known tragedy at the touristic complex “Le Giare”, with 13 victimes, seens to answer the following conditions (on the bases of the first data):· rainfall of ca. 70-100 mm, measured at the Soverato Marina Station from 01¸05 a.m. on the 10 th sept.;· minimal flux at the “Le Giare” village ³600 mc/sec;· overload in heterogranular rock debris (30¸40 cm): 25¸30% vol. at the “Le Giare” section;· flood hight: 1,5¸2 mt;· maximum flood time: between 03 and 05 a.m. o'clock; The Beltrame-Soverato rainfall area is ca. 90 Km2 wide. It is articulated in 3 physiographical sections. These 3 configurations directly control the typology and the amount of the debris flux of the current, precisely:o an extended upper area that corresponds to an ancient Pleistocene lake basin, probably the original source of the river.
