New liquid crystalline stilbene derivatives containing 1,2-dienylalkoxy chains 1(n ¼ 7, 9, 11) have been synthesized and their mesomorphic properties have beenmeasured by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry,and absorption spectroscopy. The effect of terminal alkoxy chain length and polimerisablefunction on the mesomorphic behaviour is discussed.
