The high-resolution electron-energy-loss technique has been used to investigate surface vibrational excitations of the K/Ni(111) system. The loss spectrum shows a dipole-active vibrational mode which is related to the reconstruction of the Ni(111) surface induced by the p(2X2)-K phase.

Abstract
