Inspired by this image of ‘language occupation,’ which sees language as a territory to be colonized, this paper aims to examine the role English played in the occupation, colonization, translation and representation of Native American lands and peoples over time. The focus of the analysis is Hollywood’s cinematographic productions, the ‘place’ where the Indian was literarily invented on a transnational level, in a period of time that goes from the 1930s to the 1990s.
