The main theme of this paper is food storytelling in Downton Abbey, the popular heritage drama aired from 2010 to 2015 on the British network ITV. Dish preparation and meal consumption are relevant to Downton Abbey and to the story of the Crawleys, which begins with breakfast on 16th April 1912 and finishes with a wedding reception on New Year’s Eve in 1925. I will try to answer to the following question: what does food communicate and which kind of scenario does it define? Rituals, spaces and discourses on food, meals and taste will be considered in their original entanglement with the definition of roles and power in British society between aristocrats and commoners.
