The chapter deals with an overview of the present stage of development of flow cytometers and with the description of a couple of proposals in order to overcome their limits. In particular, the possibility of deploying a flow cytometer almost everywhere without requiring a skilled operator on site has been studied and demonstrated feasible by realizing the prototype of a remotely controlled instrument based on satellite communications. Abstract

Moreover, a method to process the cell images acquired by means of an image flow cytometer is presented in order to reduce the doubtful detection of micro nuclei in human lymphocytes in the flow cytometers.
