Most of the works in the literature related to driver distraction monitoring system focused on the design and development of sensor devices and their calibration. However, the problem of collecting data related to urgent or critical events in a prioritized manner has got a little attention for this specialized application. In this paper, assuming the availability of an Intra-vehicular Sensor Network (IVSN) consisting of heterogeneous sensor devices for monitoring an on-board driver, we have developed a medium access control protocol, namely V-MAC, that enables faster delivery of high priority events related to driver distraction. Our traffic classification algorithm and CSMA/CA driven prioritized data transmission scheduling using different superframes helps it to achieve higher data delivery performance, as depicted through evaluations carried out in MATLAB.
