Today stressful lifestyle often pushes people towards the search for relaxing holidays in natural environments not affected by pollution or altered by human intervention. The positive impact of nature on wellness and health is well known and it is directly linked to the levels of biodiversity. In this chapter we will describe the effects of nature on human health and the role that natural parks could play in the improvement of public health and wellness levels, meanwhile positioning themselves as innovative tourist destinations. We will present an Italian case, that of Trentino, an area that has invested to become a successful nature & wellness tourist destination. However, it seems to be an exception in Italian parks overall panorama, in which the role of natural protected areas as instruments for the treatment and prevention of physical and metal illnesses is yet underestimated.

Abstract
Today stressful lifestyle often pushes people towards the search for relaxing holidays in natural environments not affected by pollution or altered by human intervention. The positive impact of nature on wellness and health is well known and it is directly linked to the levels of biodiversity. In this chapter we will describe the effects of nature on human health and the role that natural parks could play in the improvement of public health and wellness levels, meanwhile positioning themselves as innovative tourist destinations. We will present an Italian case, that of Trentino, an area that has invested to become a successful nature & wellness tourist destination. However, it seems to be an exception in Italian parks overall panorama, in which the role of natural protected areas as instruments for the treatment and prevention of physical and metal illnesses is yet underestimated.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
