This paper draws on a series of reflections by Karl Jaspers on William James’s work, relating to the description and analysis of some psychopathological experiences, such as changes in perception and states of hallucination present both in common mental illnesses, and in many mystical experiences. The hermeneutic hypothesis of this essay concerns the comparison between the period Jaspersian thought, that could be defined "phenomenological" - the first decade of the last century -, and James’s The Varieties of Religious Experience, of which a peculiar hue is considered, its characterization so to speak "phenomenological".

Abstract
This paper draws on a series of reflections by Karl Jaspers on William James’s work, relating to the description and analysis of some psychopathological experiences, such as changes in perception and states of hallucination present both in common mental illnesses, and in many mystical experiences. The hermeneutic hypothesis of this essay concerns the comparison between the period Jaspersian thought, that could be defined "phenomenological" - the first decade of the last century -, and James’s The Varieties of Religious Experience, of which a peculiar hue is considered, its characterization so to speak "phenomenological".I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
