In the present paper an experimental procedure for the measurement of the displacement field around a spherical indentation is described. The measures were performed by a speckle interferometer designed for the detection on small areas of one or more oblique components of displacement; the indentations were made by a standard durometer for metals. Assuming the axialsymmetry of the strain field, the measurement of a single component of displacement made feasible the reconstruction of the whole strain field, i.e. of both the radial and normal components of displacement induced by the indenter. The experiments were carried out on a hardened and tempered steel, previously characterized by a standard tensile test; the results are in good agreement with the numerical results obtained by an elasto-plastic FEM analysis.

Abstract
In the present paper an experimental procedure for the measurement of the displacement field around a spherical indentation is described. The measures were performed by a speckle interferometer designed for the detection on small areas of one or more oblique components of displacement; the indentations were made by a standard durometer for metals. Assuming the axialsymmetry of the strain field, the measurement of a single component of displacement made feasible the reconstruction of the whole strain field, i.e. of both the radial and normal components of displacement induced by the indenter. The experiments were carried out on a hardened and tempered steel, previously characterized by a standard tensile test; the results are in good agreement with the numerical results obtained by an elasto-plastic FEM analysis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
