It is widely acknowledged that the advent and use of large, computerised corpora has revolutionised the linguistic description and analysis of the English language. Considering the increasing use of corpora in ESP/EAP pedagogy, this paper outlines the content and structure of an English for Politics course in which students are introduced to corpora and during which they gain basic corpus analysis skills which will enable them to become active participants in their learning processes and to initiate analyses of their own (Krishnamurthy and Kosem, 2007). This paper gives an overview of how this course was structured, presents the types of discoursal and other linguistic phenomena examined adn the observations made by the students, and reports on the value of a corpus-informed course seen from the point of view of both learners and instructors.

Abstract
It is widely acknowledged that the advent and use of large, computerised corpora has revolutionised the linguistic description and analysis of the English language. Considering the increasing use of corpora in ESP/EAP pedagogy, this paper outlines the content and structure of an English for Politics course in which students are introduced to corpora and during which they gain basic corpus analysis skills which will enable them to become active participants in their learning processes and to initiate analyses of their own (Krishnamurthy and Kosem, 2007). This paper gives an overview of how this course was structured, presents the types of discoursal and other linguistic phenomena examined adn the observations made by the students, and reports on the value of a corpus-informed course seen from the point of view of both learners and instructors.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
