This sketchy presentation of L. J. Prieto (1926-1996) is focused on the last – and less known – works of this Argentinian semiotician, as a sort of conclusion of 35 years of scientific activity. Then, the major works written before the Saggi di semiotica are only considered insofar as they gave a contribution to his final summa. In this way, it is possible to show how Prieto’s thought has a value which is not just an historical one – rather, it leaves to us a legacy and some tasks to work on in the next years.
