The Tractatus attributed to Saint Jerome on the Gospel of Mark are a very interesting case study to observe a peculiar use of dialectic and polemical rhetoric even in the absence of real opponents and of an effective agonic interaction. Although limited in their development and limited in the space reserved to them in the tissue of each sermon, polemical inserts play often significant functions and have a clear autonomy in communicative dynamics between the pastor and his community. The essay analyzes this particular use of polemic and highlights some formal and thematic connections between the Tractatus and other works by saint Jerome.

Abstract
The Tractatus attributed to Saint Jerome on the Gospel of Mark are a very interesting case study to observe a peculiar use of dialectic and polemical rhetoric even in the absence of real opponents and of an effective agonic interaction. Although limited in their development and limited in the space reserved to them in the tissue of each sermon, polemical inserts play often significant functions and have a clear autonomy in communicative dynamics between the pastor and his community. The essay analyzes this particular use of polemic and highlights some formal and thematic connections between the Tractatus and other works by saint Jerome.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
