In this paper, the analysis of vertically loaded pile groups is performed using a method based on the dynamic stiffness matrices for layered soils. Using this method, static as well as dynamic analysis of piles is achieved within the same framework, and the soil layering effect is reliably accounted for. The accuracy of the method is assessed by comparing the results obtained using both a direct solution for pile groups and the interaction factor approach, with those deduced from other theoretical methods. A comparison with experimental measurements from a dynamic load test published in literature is also shown.

Abstract

In this paper, the analysis of vertically loaded pile groups is performed using a method based on the dynamic stiffness matrices for layered soils. Using this method, static as well as dynamic analysis of piles is achieved within the same framework, and the soil layering effect is reliably accounted for. The accuracy of the method is assessed by comparing the results obtained using both a direct solution for pile groups and the interaction factor approach, with those deduced from other theoretical methods. A comparison with experimental measurements from a dynamic load test published in literature is also shown.
