Modeling and Simulation (M&S) plays a central role as a primary tool for representing a system of systems (SoS) and for the study of its evolution, behaviors, and performances. However, with respect to large-scale systems, SoSs present different and peculiar aspects that need to be accurately taken into account and are essential to address for the definition of effective approaches for M&S of SoSs. This chapter proposes a new perspective on SoS M&S based on the adoption of the agent-based paradigm. Specifically, after the identification of the main issues for the M&S of SoSs, some of the main approaches for the M&S of SoSs are evaluated and compared in the chapter. Then, an agent-oriented perspective for SoS M&S, able to fully address the identified issues and overcoming the limitations of the currently available solutions, is proposed and exemplified by application examples in multiple domains
