In urban drainage systems catch basins are the first entry point where the runoff loaded with constituents such as heavy metals, nutrients, organic matter, suspended solids and hydrocarbons, is conveyed into a combined sewer system (CSS). Catch basins could be equipped with a filtration to treat stormwater released from parking lots. In densely urbanized areas such a practice may represent an effective point-source controlling measure as requiring low high surface area and reducing the overall pollutant loading to the wastewater treatment plants. The aim of this paper is to investigate the treatment performance of a catch basin insert based on polymeric filter in reducing the influent concentrations of Pb, suspended solids, organic matter and hydrocarbons for two experimental sites, characterized by different hydraulic and pollutant loadings. In particular, the stormwater quality in the influent and the effluent have been monitored for a series of rainfall-runoff events to explore the treatment performance of the catch basin insert. The study will show that the catch basin insert represents an effective solution for removing heavy metals and solids.

Abstract
The study will show that the catch basin insert represents an effective solution for removing heavy metals and solids.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
