La présente invention concerne un dispositif optique à cristaux liquides à effet bistable du type comprenant deux plaques transparentes (12, 14) pourvues d'électrodes de commande (18, 19) et entre lesquelles est placé un matériau cristal liquide (20) dont les molécules sont susceptibles d'occuper alternativement au moins deux états stables, caractérisé par le fait que: des ions chiraux sont dissous dans le matériau cristal liquide (20), et il est prévu des moyens (30) aptes à appliquer au dispositif des impulsions de champ électrique perpendiculaires aux plaques (12, 14), orientées alternativement dans un sens puis dans l'autre.

Abstract
A bistable liquid crystal optical device comprising two transparent plates (12, 14) with control electrodes (18, 19). In between said plates is placed a liquid crystal material (20) whose molecules can alternately be in at least two stable states.
