The article describes the results of a research work carried out in a five-year period (2008 - 2012) during which several aspects related the cultivation and energy production of Cynara cardunculus have been studied in marginal lands of the Marquis of Crotone. The priority aspects of the research are the following: the techniques of land treatment, methods of cultivation, the planting distances, plant-health control, methods of collection, characterization of yields, the characterization of the biomass obtained and the methods for energy enhancement. On the basis of the results obtained from the experimentation, the authors evaluate the economic viability associated with the design of a thermal power plant of small power sized to fully absorb the biomass produced. The scenarios investigated refer to a business environment typical of a farm that have decided to diversify its production in order to achieve economic benefits that can be used to reduce the production costs associated with its core business.

Abstract
The scenarios investigated refer to a business environment typical of a farm that have decided to diversify its production in order to achieve economic benefits that can be used to reduce the production costs associated with its core business.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
