In this lesson an experimental campaign aiming at identifying novel countermeasures against local scouring at bridge piers is described and commented on. A combination of two countermeasures (a classical one – collar – and a non-conventional one – bed-sill) is shown to be effective in terms of reduction of the maximum scour depth in different flow and sediment conditions (steady and unsteady flows, clear-water and live-bed conditions) and for different pier shapes (circular and rectangular).

Abstract
In this lesson an experimental campaign aiming at identifying novel countermeasures against local scouring at bridge piers is described and commented on. A combination of two countermeasures (a classical one – collar – and a non-conventional one – bed-sill) is shown to be effective in terms of reduction of the maximum scour depth in different flow and sediment conditions (steady and unsteady flows, clear-water and live-bed conditions) and for different pier shapes (circular and rectangular).File in questo prodotto:
