The volume begins by noting the marginal role that to the 'sensitive' has historically been assigned by the Western philosophical tradition, which has built its identity on the intelligible, that is on the stability and the need, rather than on the precariousness and contingency. On this basis, the book aims to show, by analysis of theoretically and historically distant authors like Diderot, Kant, Hegel, Dewey, Della Volpe, that the sphere of 'sensitive', or 'feel', as a fundamental means of meeting the world's phenomena, is certainly not the place where chaos reigns and the ir-rational, but it constitutes a large territory, unpredictable and uncertain, in which men begin to meaningfully organize their experiences .
