Il pensiero riformatore calabrese. Gli intellettuali e la Repubblica del 1799

This volume reconstructs the history of political reformist thought of the Calabrian eighteenth century, son of that "conservative" Enlightenment which in Calabria found its most representative exponents in philosophers, jurists, economists, poets and patriots. These authors, in line with the Neapolitan and European republican tradition, recognizing itself in the ethical values of patriotism and citizenship and rejecting abstractionism and the construction of ideal systems and worlds, have pushed for modernization, the abolition of the feudal regime, education for the "public" and the affirmation of a civil coexistence based on the reform of the economy, education and political participation.

Il volume ricostruisce la storia del pensiero politico riformatore del Settecento calabrese, figlio di quell’Illuminismo “conservatore” che in Calabria ha trovato i suoi esponenti più rappresentativi in filosofi, giuristi, economisti, poeti e patrioti che, in linea con la tradizione repubblicana napoletana ed europea, riconoscendosi nei valori etici del patriottismo e della cittadinanza e rifiutando gli astrattismi e le costruzioni di sistemi e mondi ideali, hanno spinto per la modernizzazione, l’abolizione del regime feudale, l’educazione al “pubblico” e l’affermazione di una convivenza civile fondata sulla riforma dell’economia, dell’istruzione e della partecipazione politica.
