The hydrological characteristics of a heavy storm, having caused serious damages to persons and structures in northern Italy in November 1994, are presented. The estimation of return period for the maximum daily and hourly rainfalls values observed during the event, for a particular flooded area of Piemonte region, has been performed through the regional TCEV probabilistic model, well suited for the probabilistic evaluation of extreme hydrological events. Then, an areal rainfall analysis of hourly data, compared with two large events observed in the same area in the past, is presented.
