The study conducted on the castle of the family Ruffo di Calabria, located in San Lucido (CS) consists in the acquisition of information about the original mortar of its wall structure, of which today we have only a few ruins. Thanks to the use of advanced microscopic techniques, it's possible investigate not only the morphology (also understanding its texture), but also the composition (elemental microanalysis) of the materials, to traced back to original quarry. This type of investigations are carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM with EDS probe), which also allows the identification of the type of degradation, if present (chemical, physical or biological), visible through, ie the detachment, the erosion and the presence of infesting vegetation. This preliminary work also aims to highlight the importance of interdisciplinary approach of these studies, essential in the diagnosis of a cultural object and for the complete understanding of the conservation's conditions in which it is.
