To make a proper restoration it is essential to set and carry out a detailed study to outline the state of conservation of the artefact. This study must include a careful analysis of historical knowledge, structural and technological needed to focus on the existing problems, so to avoid the use of materials and techniques of recovery incompatible. In this process of "protecting" the survival of a cultural good, diagnostic operations and the policy of conservation and restoration, gain significant importance in order to ensure proper and correct results. On the basis of these considerations, the study that relates to the fountain "Bonsignuri" located in Serra San Bruno, Calabria, was articulated by successive and sequential parts, aimed at providing all the necessary information for future restoration and/or conservation. Specifically, in a preliminary way, attention has been paid to contextualize the artefact through a territorial and historical organization, next was approached a cognitive study of detail of the fountain, in order to reconstruct a digital medical record containing all the information collected. Therefore, after tracing a brief historical and descriptive profile, we proceeded with the collection of data relating to the materials that make up the artefact, followed by a careful analysis of its current state of preservation and decay. Also in support of the information gathered there were shown the steps of sampling and laboratory analysis carried out on samples of material taken, concluding with the preparation and discussion of the esults obtained.
