Abstract

In the territory of Calabria during the Roman domination, between the late 2nd and early 1st century BC, there is a progressive replacement of the small peasant property with the plants of the first villas. Most of these villas, built from the end of the 2nd - early 1st century B.C., remained in life up to 3rd - 4th century. A.D., in some cases even up to the 6th century. A.D. The study focuses on one of them considering specifically the Roman villa situated, in the locality of Larderia near Roggiano Gravina in the province of Cosenza, halfway up the hill on the left bank of the river Occido, near the confluence with the river Esaro, where rises the current artificial lake. It is in particular one of the extra-urban residential complexes of the Roman age the most important of northern Calabria, characterized by the presence of different rooms of which are preserved mosaic floors and frescoed walls and by the presence of a thermal complex whose structure is still visible. Despite the numerous archaeological excavations, carried out since the discovery of the first monumental emergencies in 1973 and a design of an archaeological park in the 90’s, at present the villa is in a total state of neglect and degradation. In this paper we propose a valorization project of the entire complex, developing in particular the aspect of the realization of a guided tour through the use of tourismillustrative panels, designed to accompany the visitor favouring the understanding of the structure and its rooms, both from t
