In chirp based pulse compression applications, the presence of oscillations in the retrieved impulse response can limit the range resolution performance. In the paper a filter defined in the frequency domain will be proposed to minimize this effect. We will propose a comparison between the results obtainable by adopting our frequency domain defined filtering technique and the usual tapering techniques. The results will be reported of comparative experiments performed on both simulated and real world data in the case of ultrasonic measurements.

Abstract

In chirp based pulse compression applications, the presence of oscillations in the retrieved impulse response can limit the range resolution performance. In the paper a filter defined in the frequency domain will be proposed to minimize this effect. We will propose a comparison between the results obtainable by adopting our frequency domain defined filtering technique and the usual tapering techniques. The results will be reported of comparative experiments performed on both simulated and real world data in the case of ultrasonic measurements.
