In the paper a first version of COSIMI, a whole plant simulation computer code, is presented and briefly discussed. A prototype solar plant for the new building of Department of Mechanical Engineering at Calabria University has been designed and is under construction. The main features of the plant and its instrumentation are described. The plant is provided with a buried reinforced concrete tank of 500 m**3 , internally insulated with 20 cm of foamglass, and a field of heat pipe collectors of 95 m**2 .
