On the basis of the historical documentation available, the work shows the origins of the technique, the frequency with which it was practiced, the load of livestock needed, the form of the relationship established between municipalities and breeders (contracts reimbursed with communal funds, recovered perhaps from the cutting down of the woods), the effects in hydraulic terms produced by the technique and those deriving from lack of its application, on which, moreover, didn’t exist uniformity of thought.
