This paper deals with the theme of compatibility between forest management and soil conservation on slopes, with reference to the coppices of some territories of Campania characterized by particular vulnerability to hydrogeological instability due to morphological and pedo-climatic conditions. Starting from our previous knowledge and legislative framework referring to risk prevention and protection of those areas which are most exposed to phenomena of hydrogeological instability, operational guidelines for sustainable forest management are delineated, also with examples applied to the specific area affected by the tragic events of May 1998. This approach, which is able to combine the use of coppices with soil conservation, can be put into practice with forest planning related to the hydrographic basin

Abstract
This paper deals with the theme of compatibility between forest management and soil conservation on slopes, with reference to the coppices of some territories of Campania characterized by particular vulnerability to hydrogeological instability due to morphological and pedo-climatic conditions. Starting from our previous knowledge and legislative framework referring to risk prevention and protection of those areas which are most exposed to phenomena of hydrogeological instability, operational guidelines for sustainable forest management are delineated, also with examples applied to the specific area affected by the tragic events of May 1998. This approach, which is able to combine the use of coppices with soil conservation, can be put into practice with forest planning related to the hydrographic basinI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
