Although several empirical formulas have been provided in the literature to quantify the local scour induced by ship propeller jets, none of them provide a physical interpretation of the scouring phenomenon. This paper presents a derivation of the phenomenological theory of turbulence to determine the maximum equilibrium scour depth. The results demonstrate that theoretical predictions agree very well with experimental data taken from the literature.

Abstract
Although several empirical formulas have been provided in the literature to quantify the local scour induced by ship propeller jets, none of them provide a physical interpretation of the scouring phenomenon. This paper presents a derivation of the phenomenological theory of turbulence to determine the maximum equilibrium scour depth. The results demonstrate that theoretical predictions agree very well with experimental data taken from the literature.File in questo prodotto:
