Prefazione all'edizione italiana

In the preface to the first Italian edition of the "Lectures in the History of Political Thought", held by Michael Oakeshott when he was professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science, in the academic year 1966-67, the originality is emphasized of the author's technique of investigation deriving considerably from his self-limiting and subversive skepticism of every dogmatic certainty and totalizing description of political concepts. This is what allows Oakeshott to reconstruct a "complex" and "misaligned" history of European political thought regard to the series of histories of political doctrines written throughout the twentieth century.

Nella prefazione alla prima edizione italiana delle "Lectures in the History of Political Thought", tenute da Michael Oakeshott quand’era professore di Scienza politica alla London School of Economics and Political Science, nell’anno accademico 1966-67, si sottolinea la originalità del metodo d'indagine dell'autore, derivante dal suo scetticismo “autolimitante” e sovversivo di ogni certezza dogmatica e definizione totalizzante dei concetti politici. E' questo ciò che permette a Oakeshott di ricostruire una storia del pensiero politico europeo “complessa” e "disallineata" rispetto alla serie di storie delle dottrine politiche scritte nel corso di tutto il Novecento.
