Biological degradation in the cultural heritage sector is strongly conditioned by the context ecosystem. The fountain of Aeolus represents an emblematic case; it belongs to the set of impressive fountains, aligned along an axis that connects the Royal Palace of Caserta with a large waterfall located slightly upstream. Along this axis, green meadows, roads, scenic pools, sculptural blocks, fountains and waterfalls alternate. The study focuses on some forms of deterioration affecting the fountain, attributable to the water presence. Initially considered in its environmental and monumental context, the Aeolus fountain was then the subject of a specific investigation aimed at bringing out forms of degradation, through a cognitive-diagnostic path relating to the state of conservation, also making use of analysis laboratory to evaluate the effects of biodeterioration. The aim of the research is to provide in-depth knowledge and quantitative data that can be useful and supportive for the definition of effective conservation measures, compatible as well as respectful of the monu ment value.

Abstract
The aim of the research is to provide in-depth knowledge and quantitative data that can be useful and supportive for the definition of effective conservation measures, compatible as well as respectful of the monu ment value.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
