Risk Management in the Public Administration: Future prospects

The Public Administration and, in particular, the Local Authorities, are the object of analysis by the economic-business literature both in Italy and in other countries. In particular, the peculiarities that distinguish Local Authorities compared to private companies make the public sector particularly interesting from the point of view of the analysis of the Risk Management process. The aim of the paper is to analyze the state of the art of literature and practice and identify the prospects for Local Authorities so that they can face more and more efficiently the challenges that society and the market require. The approach will be qualitative, as the case study method of EU funds will be adopted. The implications of the paper are primarily academic, as it contributes to the literature on Risk Management in the Public Administration, which is not yet very vast, according to the knowledge of the authors, and, secondly, of a practical and managerial type as the study will be of help for public managers called upon to manage PA bodies.
