This paper reports a method for synthesizing a 2D Butler Matrix for a 3x3 array. The method relies on the Jordan decomposition and on the QR decomposition and can be formally extended to any number of orthogonal beams and antennas. The synthesized 2D beamformer providing nine beams is simulated on Keysight-ADS and the output amplitudes and phases are used to feed a 3x3 array. The simulated results show that the array coverage is consistent with a 2D, nine beams Butler matrix.
