Abstract

The conference presentation intends to show how environmental degradation in the global south is rooted in the historical hierarchies and global inequalities that that have fueled capitalism development, and which have been exacerbated by the neoliberal turn. Drawing on the Anthropocene-Capitalocene debate, we will reflect on how patterns of capital accumulation based on extractivism and expropriation have driven the current planetary ecological crisis, generating “wasting relationship” (Armiero), especially between core and peripheral areas.
