Ancient coins have a great fascination for people and are an important direct witness of ancient civilizations, but they are often not used to their full potential and their large museum collections are frequently exposed to the risk of theft and loss of the heritage of knowledge represented by the discovery data. The ‘Ex Thesauris Historia’ project aims to provide a complete scientific edition with HD photos and in-depth chronologies of some large hoards of thousands of Greek bronze coins, usually overlooked, in the Syracuse museum, some of which come from the French excavations at Megara Hyblaea. The ‘MeMoIRe’ project aims to realize ant accurate edition, preservation and contextualization of the 6000 coins found in that important site.
