The paper will present the results of a research dedicated to the reconstruction of the exchange practices and social hierarchies of the urban market of Rovereto between the 18th and 19th Centuries. Through an integrated analysis of different archival sources (iconographic representations, tax and administrative documents), we will try to give more depth to the historical, social and commercial events linked to the commercial space in “Piazza delle erbe”. Urban markets are characterising elements of a town or city, just like its monuments, historic buildings or places of worship. As also happened in other European realities throughout the 18th and 19th Centuries, the urban areas of Rovereto in which the trade of foodstuffs took place were affected by intense morphological transformations.
