The democratization of electricity generation from renewable sources, driven by energy transition policies, has led to a significant development of distributed generation. This fragmented energy production challenges the electricity market model, which was designed for the competitive exchange of energy between large prosumers and consumers. It has therefore become essential to complement this traditional market with a localized market featuring distributed energy generation, organized in renewable energy communities. In this context, this paper proposes a peer-to-peer (P2P) market model, as required by the recent European directive, for application in energy communities to maximize the benefits of self-consumption. The framework is applied to an Italian case study based on electricitymarket data and representative profiles of prosumers and consumers. Results show that the proposed peer-to-peer market generates economic benefits for both producers and consumers compared to traditional commercial exchanges.
