This paper concerns the archaeometric study conducted on a group of fragments pertaining to bricks and Dressel 2-4 amphorae datable to the Roman period. In particular, the samples come from the archaeological sites of Cariati, Terravec-chia and Scala Coeli, in the province of Cosenza (Calabria, southern Italy). The samples analyzed, including the bricks affected by the L./N. LUSIPETEL and M. MECONI stamps, were produced by factories operating on the central-northern Ionian coast of Calabria between the late Republican period and the imperial era. All samples were analyzed by optical microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and energy-dispersive microanalysis by scanning electron microscope, in order to determine their mineral-petrographic characteristics and geochemical composition, identify the area of extraction of raw mate-rials and the technological aspects related to clay processing. Furthermore, the comparison between the chemical composition of the samples with clay and sand from some quarries in the Cariati area further confirmed that most of these artifacts were produced locally using raw materials from natural outcrops of the Pliocene.

Abstract
Furthermore, the comparison between the chemical composition of the samples with clay and sand from some quarries in the Cariati area further confirmed that most of these artifacts were produced locally using raw materials from natural outcrops of the Pliocene.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
