The excavation activities involved a total area of 46 square meters through the opening of two trenches (I and II) in the western sector of the site. The stratigraphic investigations in Trench I aimed to verify the physical and stratigraphic sequences already outlined in previous excavation campaigns, which presented several inconsistencies. The goal was to propose a better understanding of the stratigraphic palimpsest preceding the construction of the monumental building brought to light in 2013 , and to definitively clarify the relationship between its wall structures made of large squared blocks and the layers cut to build them, down to the earliest occupation levels (Early Iron Age). The opening of Trench II allowed for the investigation of the northern part of the western sector of the area, where a massive collapse layer with substantial traces of combustion was present - already intercepted in the previous 2014 excavation campaign - composed of flat tiles, imbrices, and antefixes featuring a pentagonal plaque and the head of Artemis Bendis. The excavation operations in Trench II aimed to uncover, investigate, and subsequently remove what remained of the site's defunctionalization and abandonment phase. This was likely due to the violent destruction of one or more buildings, of which only a faint but significant evidence currently remains in the wall segment made of perfectly squared stone blocks that came to light during the final days of excavation.

Abstract
This was likely due to the violent destruction of one or more buildings, of which only a faint but significant evidence currently remains in the wall segment made of perfectly squared stone blocks that came to light during the final days of excavation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
