Dans cet article, l'approche cinématique de l'analyse limite est utilisée pour analyser l'influence d'une nappe d'eau dans le sous-sol, sur la capacité portante des fondations superficielles. Les expressions analytiques sont établies pour calculer la capacité portante de semelles filantes sur les sols où la nappe d'eau souterraine est à proximité de semelle. Les résultats obtenus grace à cette méthode sont comparés avec les résultats d'autres solutions existantes dans la littérature. En outre, une étude paramétrique est réalisée pour illustrer l'influence de la nappe d'eau souterraine sur la capacité portante. L'importance de cette influence est discutée et quelques considérations sont fait sur les résultats obtenus grace à des méthodes approximatives qui sont amplement employées dans la pratique. Enfin, une simple approximation de la solution théorique établie dans cette étude est proposée pour les applications usuelles.
