Abstract: This paper sketches an analysis of saussurean usage of the word ‘sentiment’, showing how there are two kinds of use: the first is more general (as a word), while the second (which is present mostly in the last phase of Saussure’s thinking) is more technical (as a term), and refers to the specific object of morphology. The case of ‘sentiment’ (although rarely noted, till now) is very interesting in order to make remarks on Saussure’s mode of expression (and on the general principles to dress a saussurean lexicon) and to see a fundamental joint between langue and parole.
