Abstract
ABSTRACT: Along the "Catena Costiera", west of Cosenza (Calabria; south Italy), in tectonic window, wide successione of carbonate rocks, Trias age, outcrop. These outcrops, named and known as "Dolomie di Monte Cocuzzo" (the higher mount of the area), have been considered as a southern continuation of “Appennino calcareo” auctt and, for this reason, as a portion of the African margin overthrusted by European metamorphic unit and, now, emerging under them. On the contrary, our study, whose data are reported in the present paper, outlines, for these outcrops, a geologic framework completely new and different from what so far known for the triassic carbonates of “Appennino calcareo”. Therefore, this submits a chief problem for the structural restoration of the calabrian Apennine or, better known, Arco Calabro orogene: carbonates, which form the outcrops of Monte Cocuzzo and adjoining mountains, are an emerging portion of the African margin overthrusted by metamorphic alpine unit...I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
