The synthesis and characterization of a new liquid-crystalline columnar 2,2-bipyridinesilver complex containing the 2,2-bipyridine and benzoate as ancillary ligand, bothfunctionalized with long alkyl chains was performed, along with a full photophysicalinvestigation both in solution and in different condensed states. Furthermore, in orderto get more insights about their solid-state architectures, structural studies have beenperformed on a model complex. The new complexes are luminescence in solution, buton passing to the condensed states, this luminescence is quenched or red-shifted, as afunction of different “soft” or “hard” organizations inducted by varying the temperature.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a new liquid-crystalline columnar 2,2-bipyridinesilver complex containing the 2,2-bipyridine and benzoate as ancillary ligand, bothfunctionalized with long alkyl chains was performed, along with a full photophysicalinvestigation both in solution and in different condensed states. Furthermore, in orderto get more insights about their solid-state architectures, structural studies have beenperformed on a model complex. The new complexes are luminescence in solution, buton passing to the condensed states, this luminescence is quenched or red-shifted, as afunction of different “soft” or “hard” organizations inducted by varying the temperature.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
