“The attack to the European social model” and the quality of the democracy di Francesco Raniolo Since the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), democracy has experienced radical changes. In particular, the article emphasizes some challenges of historic significance: the crisis of welfare state in its various national version and of political representation. These crises are effects of long-term structural transformations in the social, economic and institutional context alleging European and Western democracies. Within this setting the threat against European social model, considered in terms of democratic quality and its subversion, was developed. In the last part, the article examines how the crisis of the welfare state impacts on parties, on their ideology, organization and especially on their competitive strategies. It will be showed up, finally, the weaknesses of the theory of cartel politics.
“L’attacco al modello sociale europeo” e la qualità della democrazia di Francesco Raniolo Dalla caduta del muro di Berlino (1989), la democrazia sta attraversando radicali trasformazioni. In particolare, nell’articolo si enfatizzano alcune sfide di portata storica: la crisi dello Stato nazionale, la crisi del welfare e la crisi della rappresentanza politica. Tali crisi sono il frutto di trasformazioni strutturali di lungo periodo del contesto sociale, economico ed istituzionale delle democrazie europee e occidentali. Ed è proprio in questo contesto che matura l’attacco al modello sociale europeo qui considerato dal punto di vista della qualità democratica e segnatamente del suo deterioramento. L’articolo poi prende in esame l’impatto che la crisi dello stato sociale ha sui partiti, sulla loro ideologia, organizzazione e soprattutto sulle loro strategie competitive. Si evidenziano, infine, i limiti della tesi della cartel politics.
