Interpretazione musicale e concezione della forma: l'Impromptu per arpa di Gabriel Faurè

The Impromptu for D Flat Major op.86, written by Gabriel Fauré in 1904 for the harp diploma exam at the Conservatoire de Paris, is one of the most popular and appreciated compositions between modern performers. Interpreting the title as a suggestion on how the piece should be played, a few soloists of international fame have proposed extremely virtuous versions of it. Beyond this aspect, that surely is present in the French composer's work, the comparison between a few of these interpretations shows a number of formal conceptions that suggest an in-depth analysis. Starting with the formal indications that the different interpretations suggest, first of all the analytic investigation tries to understand which one of these is most consistent with Fauré's written text. Subsequently, there is an exchange of analytical-interpretative observations that combine some essential elements of the executive praxis with the analytical introspection. This allows the identification of an interpretation that is not restricted to mere virtuosity. In addition to the comparison and the analysis of the various interpretations of the Impromptu, the following aspects are handled: the harmonic and contrapuntal articulation of the main theme, of the "lyrical" theme and some of their variations, the hidden motives, the formal functions that are associated to the different sections of the piece, the virtuosity and the dictated composition.

L'Impromptu in Reb maggiore op. 86, scritto da Gabriel Fauré nel 1904 per l'esame di diploma di arpa del Conservatorio di Parigi, è una delle composizioni più frequentate e apprezzate dagli interpreti moderni. Utilizzando il titolo del pezzo come suggerimento esecutivo alcuni solisti di fama internazionale hanno proposto delle esecuzioni dal carattere fortemente virtuosistico. Al di là di quest'aspetto il confronto tra alcune di queste interpretazioni individua una pluralità di concezioni formali che non può non imporre un approfondimento di carattere analitico. Partendo dalle indicazioni formali suggerite dalle diverse interpretazioni, l'indagine analitica cerca in primo luogo di comprendere quali di esse sono più aderenti al testo scritto da Fauré. Successivamente vengono proposte delle osservazioni analitico-interpretative che coniugano alcuni imprescindibili elementi della prassi esecutiva con l'introspezione analitica condotta, individuando quindi una lettura della composizione non limitata al semplice aspetto virtuosistico. Oltre al confronto e all'analisi delle diverse interpretazioni, sono trattati i seguenti aspetti: l'articolazione armonico-contrappuntistica del tema principale, del tema "lirico" e di alcune loro variazioni, i motivi nascosti, le funzioni formali associate alle diverse sezioni del pezzo, il virtuosismo e il dettato compositivo.
