A new type of slot-loaded compact microstrip antenna for broadband applications is proposed in this work. The main slot is given by a polygonal structure obtained from a standard U-slot geometry, while a circular ring is added as a secondary slot to provide the capacitive compensation of the large inductance introduced by the coaxial feed. This design allows to decrease the typical microstrip antenna size of about 30% while assuring a large operating bandwidth, typical of a U-slot antenna configuration. The proposed configuration is adopted to design a compact patch antenna for broadband P-sounding applications.

Abstract
A new type of slot-loaded compact microstrip antenna for broadband applications is proposed in this work. The main slot is given by a polygonal structure obtained from a standard U-slot geometry, while a circular ring is added as a secondary slot to provide the capacitive compensation of the large inductance introduced by the coaxial feed. This design allows to decrease the typical microstrip antenna size of about 30% while assuring a large operating bandwidth, typical of a U-slot antenna configuration. The proposed configuration is adopted to design a compact patch antenna for broadband P-sounding applications.File in questo prodotto:
