The long life lived by an elderly person has determined, during its course, many educational sequences and different ways to establish relationships with the outside world, as well as with himself. Therefore, in this season of life, he has to analyze and to take as parts of himself many formative dynamics. The senior person, thus, seeks to reorganize the threads of his existence, clarifying the key problems of his past and fostering the memory; he cultivates both the recent memory, as witness of his life experience, and the oldest, as "narration" of the cultural heritage from which he comes. The long, internalized, experience of life characterizes the old age as a privileged moment to rise towards the completion of the educational and training path which the person lived for the entire course of his existence; at the end of this existential process, the detachment from the material things puts the elderly person in the ideal condition - as external observer - to accomplish this delicate (and not at all obvious) educational mission. The contact with the memory allows the elderly person to become a mentor who teaches telling "tales": the senior person through the stories of his life conveys information and codes about culture and values that fulfill a number of educational objectives, that are fundamental to develop and maintain identity.

Abstract
The contact with the memory allows the elderly person to become a mentor who teaches telling "tales": the senior person through the stories of his life conveys information and codes about culture and values that fulfill a number of educational objectives, that are fundamental to develop and maintain identity.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
