The propagation of weak discontinuities in a inviscid radiative gas is con-sidered. The fundamental transport equation governing the growth and thedecay of the discontinuities associated to the waves has been obtained andsolved. The problem of the ”breakdown” of the weak discontinuities andthe consequent formation of shock waves has been studied and an analytical solution for a particular initial surface has been derived and illustrated.

Abstract
