Pope Francis has challenged the Italian Catholicism. The paper looks at thebenefits and contradictions in his style of governing the Church which minglescharisma and institutions, innovation and continuity, devolution and authority,decomposition and composition. Between approval and discontent the «Bergoglio’seffect» produces in the Church a movement and a countermovement.Pope Francis charisma is exposed to the test of achieving the transformationhis widespread consensus appears to allow for, being emotionally based onplaces and subjects who become key players of the changes anticipated bythe Pontiff. It is a route that operates in a pluralist and secularised societyand that has to overcome some resistance to change, that are internal to theChurch institution which is founded on traditions. The outcomes of the neworder that will follow Pope Francis’ revolution remain uncertain.
La sfida di papa Francesco al cattolicesimo italiano. Benefici e contraddizioni di uno stile di governo della Chiesa che sovrappone carisma ed istituzione, innovazione e continuità, decentramento e imperio, scomposizione e ricomposizione. Tra plausi e malumori, l’effetto Bergoglio genera nella chiesa movimento e contromovimento. Il carisma di papa Francesco sottoposto alla prova di riuscire a trasformare il diffuso consenso di cui gode, da opinione emozionale in luoghi e soggetti che divengano attori dei cambiamenti auspicati dal pontefice. Un percorso che si muove in una società pluralista e secolarizzata e che deve superare le resistenze al cambiamento interne alla Chiesa nel contempo custodendone la tradizione. Gli esiti incerti del nuovo ordine che seguirà alla rivoluzione di papa Francesco.
